August 5th – September 9th Join Pastor Sue in her study beginning Thursday evening for a six week Bible Study, 7:30-8:30pm. This will be a discussion of Biblical Characters, no Bible background necessary to participate. Sign up in the narthex/lobby.

 

Next Sunday August 8th – September 12th Learn American Sign Language in a class taught by Khai Nguyen. Meet in the sanctuary  The one hour classes will be held each Sunday, the cost is $50 (exception: Council members and minors may take the class for free). Sign up in the narthex or email the church office if you are interested in attending.

 

August 18th – Great Events Lunch Bunch 11:00 am, meet at the Metro station in North Hollywood.

 

August 18th Summer Movie Night Wednesday at 7:00pm. We are planning an informal movie watching night in the Fireside Room, the film will be “Elmer Gantry” starring Burt Lancaster.  It is a 1960 drama about a con man and a female evangelist selling religion to small town America. Bring a food item to share.

 

Sunday August 22nd Feminine Sacred Circle meets noon – 1:30pm in the library to discuss resurrection of the dead.

 

September 15th St. Matthew’s Choir Rehearsal 7:30pm – 9:00pm  Join us as we begin our fall choir ministry.  No previous experience needed…just a willingness to sing, have fun and serve God.

 

Mexico House trip to Otay, November 5 – 7 to build a house through Lutheran Border Concerns Ministry. You will need to be able to leave on Friday morning, we will return Sunday evening. If you do not have a passport ($100), or a passport card ($45) please be aware you need to apply for one by early September, it takes 6 – 8 weeks. If you have financial need but would like to attend contact Kenny or Pastor Sue.  

 

August Coffee Hour hosts are needed.  Please sign-up on the poster board in the narthex/lobby.

 

 

Ongoing Events

 Adult Forum meets every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Fireside Room. Pastor Sue Devol leads the discussion. You are invited to join us at any time. 

Feminine Sacred Circle meets monthly in the church library from 12:00 – 1:30pm. July 25th Soulful Healing with Amber Keating. 

Book Club (note date change) meets July 27th, at Pastor Sue’s home at 7:30pm. In July we will discuss “It Can’t Happen Here,” by Sinclair Lewis. 

Growth Group Thursdays, 7:30-9pm beginning September 16.  Facilitated by Kenny Callaghan.

Looking Further Ahead

 

 

Our August food collection is breakfast cereal. You may place your donation items on the table in front of the church.

Lutheran Social Services need volunteers the LSS clothes closet is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am – noon and 1pm to 3pm. People are needed to work a two hour shift once a week. Contact Jan Maseda if you can help 818 901-9480

September 19th St. Matt’s Alive Join us following worship for a light meal and a presentation of Koinonia Prison Ministry, a new outreach opportunity for our congregation to reach out to LGBT inmates.  

 

September 23rd Growth Group 7:30-9pm in the church library.

 

Sept. 26th Feminine Sacred Circle “Conscience” and “What do you believe about Satan.”
