Susan E. Wolfe Devol Pastor
Sue was born in Los Angeles and raised in Ventura. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1977 with a B.A. in Sociology and a Master of Divinity in 1982 from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa.
Sue has served in many different parish contexts - urban, suburban, rural and multicultural, for over 26 years. She interned at Gracious Savior in Detroit, Michigan. She served as Pastor at St. John, Los Banos, St. Peter, Santa Ana, and Angelica, Los Angeles all in California. She completed the National Capitol Semester in Washington DC, taught English in Taiwan, participated in Amigos de las Americas in Honduras, and has traveled extensively. Sue has done post graduate study at Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, IA, Luther Northwestern Seminary in Minneapolis, MN and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA.
Sue is married to Steven Devol, a copy editor on morning desk of the Los Angeles Times. They have one son, Pierce, who attends St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

Kenny Callaghan Music and Outreach Coordinator
Kenny is a native of Southern California and attended Chapman College in
Orange, studying music and education. He received a Master of
Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena with
post-graduate studies at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in
Berkeley,
Claremont School of Theology in Claremont and Fuller Theological Seminary.
Kenny has served on the staff of Calvary Baptist Church in Gardena,
Resurrection Lutheran Church in Redondo Beach, St. Paul's Lutheran
Church in Rancho Palos Verdes and
Jesus View Chapel in San Luis Obispo. Kenny is a member of the Gay
Men's Chorus of Los Angeles. He also works with post-incarcerated men
and women living with HIV and facilitates HIV/AIDS support groups.
Among Kenny's talents are music performance and composition and an
engaging, personal style as a public speaker.

R. Guy Erwin, Ph.D. Theologian in Residence
Guy Erwin serves St. Matthew’s part-time as "theologian in residence," which means that he helps the congregation with worship renewal and educational programs, advises the church council and the pastor, and works with the staff in organizing worship. He also occasionally preaches or presides at worship services. In his full-time career, Dr. Erwin is the Gerhard & Olga Belgum Professor of Lutheran Confessional Theology at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. At CLU, he teaches the history of Christianity (particularly the Reformation era), the history of Germany and Scandinavia, and courses in theology and worship. He lives in Sherman Oaks, and has been a member of St. Matthew’s since 2001.

Born in Oklahoma and a member of the Osage Tribe of Indians, Erwin was educated at Harvard and Yale and spent several years of graduate study at German universities. He has spoken and published widely on historic and modern Lutheranism, and is very active as a volunteer leader at the national level of the ELCA. In 2009, he will be one of our Southwest California Synod’s voting members at the ELCA Churchwide Assembly in Minneapolis. Internationally, he represents the ELCA on the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches, and represents North America’s Lutherans in the planning for a world consultation on Lutheran education to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in January of 2010.
