The Lutheran
At www.thelutheran.org, the website of Lutheran magazine, there are some interesting articles, including one this month about the importance of liturgy, and walking through Lent with Francis of Assisi. On Saturday, April 14 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks, a Hunger Gathering will take place, sponsored by the Global Mission/World Hunger Committee of the Southwest California Synod. Invited speakers include: U.S. Rep. Lois Capps, who is a member of Grace Lutheran in Santa Barbara. Dr. Lisa Bonds, vice president for External Relations, Lutheran World Relief, Baltimore The Rev. George S. Johnson, retired ELCA pastor, hunger advocate, former director of Third World Opportunities. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m. The program includes keynote presentations, workshops, lunch, sharing of information about the ONE Campaign and the ELCA World Hunger Program and hunger activities in local congregations. See Pastor Sue, or email her if you are interested in attending.
The festival will offer Nordic foods, activities and a Sunday worship service. The admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and youth, and $2 for youth from 12 to 18. Children under 12 will be admitted free. Parking is also free.
In Atlanta, the Discipline Committee chosen by the ELCA recommends that synod assemblies, and the Churchwide Assembly reconsider and revise the policy which prohibits homosexual relationships for clergy. The recommendation is that all clergy who have been taken off the roster because of this policy be reconsidered. To view the entire decision, go to lcna.org. Those involved in the trial were pleased by the direction of this decision.
In March we will collect canned soup (preferably flip- top cans). Easter candy (wrapped) and Easter baskets are also needed so that Easter baskets can be made up for needy children.
